The Thing

So here's The Thing with me & hotels/motels.

When I was a teenager, my first 'real job' (real meaning any source of income not related to newspapers) was working at a hotel. It's arguable how naïve I was/am, but based on my collective memory of cleaning rooms which housed jacuzzis in the living room coupled with numerous Dateline NBC exposés , I'm a bit cautious when it comes to overnight squatting.

My biggest concern stems from knowing what my sheltered teenage self considered an 'adequate' job in cleaning rooms - my duty was to clean as many rooms as I could within the latest check-outs and the earliest check-ins every day, and I knew what I considered clean, but sadly upon reflecting it was still much cleaner than what most of my coworkers did - even with an 'understanding' (see: aged experience; I believe I'm going to max out my quotation marks at some point here - bear with me) of the types of scenarios rented rooms produce. Even then, I still did a pretty quick job of it as I wanted to be considered efficient and worth my post.

So not for nothing, but particularly with cheaper hotels/motels, I'm quite aware of what might (likely) be overlooked on a day-to-day basis.

So excuse me if I think thrice about sleeping atop the covers tonight.
